Meperidine-induced Seizure in an Adult Patient with Lung Lesions

چکیده
To the Editor: Meperidine, also known as pethidine, is one of the most commonly prescribed opioid analgesics. Meperidine exerts high central nervous system depressant effects through producing prolonged activation of opioid receptors (μ‐receptor). We described a rare case of generalized tonic–clonic seizures after intravenous (IV) injection of meperidine for bronchoscopy premedication in a patient with a lung lesion who lacked a prior history of seizures.

Meperidine is indicated and frequently used for the relief of moderate to severe pain associated with various disease states and procedures, including sickle cell crisis pain, postoperative analgesia, and migraine headaches. Additionally, the parenteral form is approved for preoperative medication. The use of meperidine for analgesia should not be considered benign. Common adverse reactions cau...
متن کاملMeperidine Induced Seizure in a Patient With Lyme Borreliosis
A 15 years old child with Lyme borreliosis was treated with meperidine via a patient controlled analgesia (PCA) pump for pain management. He had no history of seizure and had normal hepatic and renal functions. At the 7th hour of meperidine PCA delivery, generalized tonic-clonic seizure was developed and successfully suppressed with antiepileptics and no neurologic sequel was occurred. The tota...

Introduction: The concentration and action of ascorbic acid in the central nervous system as a vitamin and also a neuromodulator have exercise-induced fluctuations. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of anaerobic exercise alone and associated with the consumption of ascorbic acid as a non pharmacological treatment for reducing seizures and increasing seizure thresholds. ...
